Steampunk. Dystopian Future. Fantasy. Pride & Prejudice feels.
'A Winter's Promise' is the English language translation of the first book in quartet called 'The Mirror Visitor' series by Christelle Dabos.
It's been called the steampunk version of Pride & Prejudice - and given the initial interaction between the main protagonist and her betrothed - you can see why. Unlike a lot of romantic entanglements in fantasy, however, this excellent start to the series makes sure you're never sure who you can trust.
A dystopian view of the future of earth (although in 2021, is there any other kind?), A Winter's Promise introduces 'arcs' which are a mix between disparate city-states and a kind of magical tribalism that is Not for the faint of heart.

It's a great time to read it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book and would highly recommend getting into it - especially since the fourth installment of the quartet has been released in French with the English version set to drop from @europaeditions in September 2021.
